What is it

Your name, used by someone else

There are two common routes. First, your real account is taken over, usually through a fake DM claiming to be from Meta that asks you to “appeal” via a link. Second, scammers create a new account with the same name, logo and photos.

Then they post a promo that's too good to miss and ask for payment by transfer or WhatsApp. Your followers trust it because what they see is your name.

What it means for your business

Followers get scammed

People who trust your name pay for a promo that never existed.

A booking channel lost

If your real account is taken, you lose access to messages, followers and ads, sometimes for weeks.

Trust drops

Afterwards, followers wonder whether your next promo is really from you.

For your staff

Warning signs to look out for

Share this list with your front office, reservations and finance staff. When in doubt, ask first.

  • DMs or emails claiming to be from Meta, Instagram or WhatsApp asking you to click a link to “appeal” or “verify”.
  • Accounts with a similar name, e.g. with .official, _bali or a doubled letter added.
  • Followers asking about a promo you never ran.
  • Sign-in or email-change notifications you don't recognise.
  • A WhatsApp verification code arrives when nobody is setting up WhatsApp on a new phone.
  • The account is held by one person only, with no two-step verification.

How SiberWisata helps

Brand Protection watches your name on social media, not just on the web.

Brand Protection

We watch for accounts copying your name and logo on Instagram, Facebook and other platforms. Impersonators are reported through the platform's official channels with full evidence, and we keep following up. The final decision rests with the platform. We also help secure your official accounts: two-step verification, who has access, and the right recovery email.

Monitoring is continuous. Analyst hours and response times are agreed per plan and written into the contract.

How it works

  1. We record your accounts

Your official accounts, name and logo become the monitoring reference.

  2. We look for copies

New accounts with similar names and images are checked and compared.

  3. We report and follow up

We share findings with you, then report to the platform and follow up until there's a decision.
